Terms of Service
Plain-language terms so you know exactly what you're getting and what to expect.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By purchasing a package or creating an account on Page and Pixel Designs ("we," "us," or "our"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.
2. What You're Purchasing
Page and Pixel Designs is a platform service — not a code sale. When you purchase a setup package, you are purchasing:
- Access to a professionally configured author website on our platform
- An author dashboard to manage your content, books, and features
- The specific add-on features you selected at checkout
- A free subdomain (yourname.pageandpixeldesigns.com)
Your site address: Each account has one site name at a time; changing it releases the old one for others to use. A small number of names are reserved, and we may reclaim a name that impersonates someone else or infringes a trademark. If you use your own domain, you're responsible for registering and renewing it and for its DNS settings.
You do not own the underlying code, platform, or infrastructure. This is standard for hosted website services — the same model used by Squarespace, Wix, and Shopify. What you do own is all of your content: your author bio, book listings, images, blog posts, and other data you upload.
3. Payments
All payments are processed securely by Stripe. By completing a purchase, you authorize the charge to your payment method.
One-time setup fees ($50–$250 depending on selected features) are charged at the time of purchase and cover the cost of configuring and activating your author website.
Monthly hosting ($5–$45/month depending on storage tier) is billed on a recurring basis starting when you launch your site. Hosting fees cover keeping your website online, your storage allotment, and ongoing platform access.
Plan changes: Storage upgrades take effect right away, and the prorated difference is charged immediately. Downgrades take effect at your next renewal.
Storage limits: Each plan includes a set amount of storage. Before your site launches, and after a subscription ends, the Basic allowance (1 GB) applies — a larger plan you've chosen takes effect when its subscription starts. If you're over your plan's limit (for example, after a downgrade), nothing is deleted and your site stays online, but new uploads are paused until you're back under it. If you're still over the limit 30 days later, add-ons that store images (Photo Gallery, Blog, Events Calendar, Worldbuilding Guide, and Direct Book Sales) are hidden from readers until you delete enough images or upgrade. Your home page, books, and the rest of your site stay online, and the add-ons come back automatically as soon as you're under the limit. We'll email you when you go over the limit and again before the 30 days are up.
"Support Us" contributions: Optional contributions from the dashboard are voluntary thank-you payments. They don't unlock features, and they are non-refundable except in the case of a payment error.
All prices are in USD. We reserve the right to adjust pricing with 30 days' notice to existing subscribers.
4. Refund Policy
One-time setup fees are non-refundable once your author dashboard access has been granted. Because access to the platform is delivered immediately upon payment, the service is considered rendered at that point.
Monthly hosting fees are non-refundable for the current billing period. If you cancel, your site stays online through the end of the period you've paid for, and you will not be charged again.
Exception: If you experience a technical error that prevents you from accessing your dashboard after payment, contact us at support@pageandpixeldesigns.com within 7 days and we will make it right.
5. Cancellation
You may cancel your monthly hosting subscription at any time from your author dashboard. Cancellation stops future billing immediately. Your site stays online through the end of your current paid period, and your dashboard stays available after that.
After your subscription ends, your site will go offline, but you can still sign in to your dashboard, and your content (author bio, book listings, blog posts, images, and everything else you created) stays saved. You can resubscribe at any time to bring your site back, with no new setup fee, or download a copy of all your content any time from Account → Download my content in your dashboard.
Your content is permanently deleted only if you request it, from Account → Delete my account in your dashboard or by contacting us. Deletion takes effect 14 days after your request, and you can cancel it during that time.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that are delinquent on hosting payments after reasonable notice.
6. Your Content
You retain full ownership of all content you upload or create through your author dashboard — including your author bio, book descriptions, blog posts, images, and event listings.
By uploading content to our platform, you grant us a limited license to store, display, and deliver that content as part of operating your website. We will never sell your content or use it for our own promotional purposes without your explicit permission.
You are responsible for ensuring you have the rights to any content you upload (including book cover images and photos).
7. Selling Through Your Site (Direct Book Sales)
If you sell through your site, you sell directly to your readers: payments go into your own Stripe account, and you are the seller. You're responsible for your products, delivering orders, customer service, refunds, chargebacks and disputes, and any taxes on your sales. Checkout collects a shipping address for every order that includes a physical item and adds the flat shipping charge you set in your dashboard (if any), limited to the countries you choose to ship to; you're responsible for shipping orders to the address the reader gave, and for any shipping costs beyond that charge. Stripe's processing fees come out of your sales. We don't currently take a platform fee; if we introduce one, we'll give existing sellers 30 days' notice.
To sell, you create your own Stripe account through your dashboard. That account is yours: your agreement for it is directly with Stripe under the Stripe Services Agreement, Stripe charges its fees to you, and you manage payouts, refunds and disputes in your own Stripe dashboard. Page and Pixel Designs is not a party to that agreement. You agree to give Stripe and us accurate information about you and your business, and you authorize us to share with Stripe, and receive from it, the account and transaction information needed to run your store (for example, whether your account can accept payments, and the details of each order).
Digital products. You may sell downloads (such as ebooks and audiobooks) only if you own them or have the right to sell them. We store the files you upload privately and deliver them to buyers through download links that work only for paid, unrefunded orders, with a download limit per link; we can't stop a buyer from sharing a file once they have downloaded it. Download files count towards your storage plan.
Shop policies and tax. You can publish shop policies (returns, shipping, downloads) on your site; they are your terms with your buyers, and you're responsible for honouring them and for meeting consumer law where you sell. If you turn on Stripe Tax, Stripe calculates and collects tax on your behalf in your own Stripe account under Stripe's terms and fees; you remain responsible for registering, filing and paying any taxes due.
If Stripe recovers a refund, chargeback, or other amount owed on your sales from us rather than from your account, you agree to reimburse us. You may only sell items that Stripe allows (see Stripe's list of restricted businesses).
8. Your Readers' Information
Your site lets readers message you and buy from you. When they do, you receive their name and email address, and, for orders, their shipping address. Use this information only to reply to them, fulfil their orders, and provide related customer service; keep it secure; and follow the privacy laws that apply to you. Don't add readers to a mailing list unless they've agreed to it.
Messages from your contact form are sent to the contact email you've confirmed in your dashboard. Keep that address up to date so readers can reach you.
9. Theme Requests and Exclusive Themes
If you request a new theme (included at no additional cost), the completed theme becomes part of the Page and Pixel Designs public theme catalog and may be offered to other authors. New themes take up to 2 weeks; you're welcome to launch with another theme in the meantime, and the new theme is applied to your site when it's ready unless you cancel the request. If you require an exclusive theme that is never shared or reused, this is available as a separate paid service — contact us to discuss.
10. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use your author website to:
- Publish illegal content or infringe on intellectual property rights
- Distribute spam, malware, or deceptive content
- Impersonate another person or entity
- Engage in any activity that violates applicable laws
- Send spam or unsolicited messages to readers, or misuse their information
- Try to get around the platform's security, limits, or payment requirements, or access other authors' accounts or data
You're responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for activity under your account. Tell us right away if you think someone else has accessed it.
We reserve the right to remove content or suspend accounts that violate these terms.
11. Limitation of Liability
Page and Pixel Designs provides its platform "as is." We are not liable for lost revenue, lost data, or indirect damages arising from use of our services. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 3 months preceding the claim.
We are not responsible for third-party services linked from your site (such as Amazon retail links, newsletter providers, or social media platforms).
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page and notify active subscribers by email. Continued use of our services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
13. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes will be resolved in good faith first; if that fails, through binding arbitration rather than litigation.
